SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber is re-elected after a contentious campaign.
Attacks, Accusations and Strong Criticism has surrounded the Shawano County Sheriff Campaign since August.
“It was a long race. It started back in April. This was a convincing win and we are happy about it.”
Bieber defeated Officer Keith Sorlie by just under 3000 votes despite facing a strong group voicing opposition who backed both Sorlie and the candidate that Bieber defeated in the primary.
“We trusted our supporters and they came out big time for us.”
For Bieber says he continues to stand behind the changes and promises he made in 2014.
“We know that there is going to be a lot of challenges ahead for the County. We have a good team that I work with and we are looking forward to those challenges.”
Despite all the drama within the election, Bieber says he never let it get him down.
“We stayed positive the whole time.”
He says he expects many challenges ahead but looks back on some of the good.
“We made a lot of changes in Shawano County these last four years.
We brought nine new services.”
Bieber defeated former Sheriff Randy Wright in that election primary and even had to beat him again in November as a write-in Wright campaign was started.
Fast Forward in 2018, those that did not support Bieber put their support behind two different candidates, one in the primary, former Chief Deputy John Gutho, and Independent Officer Keith Sorlie.
In his time since being elected, Sheriff has fixed the problem of having money missing from the jail, increased social media presence and transparency with the community and was instrumental in the getting a new evidence storage building which was just finished.
Bieber won with 58 percent of the vote by a total of 10,193 to 7,531
