BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says having an Emergency vehicle kit in your trunk will help you when in need.
Now that we have experienced the first snowfall of the winter, being prepared for the unexpected is recommended.
“If you are going on a long distance drive, we recommend that you have extra warmer clothes so you can last that long journey.”
Streckenbach says a tote or bin with items inside can fit right in a vehicle’s trunk and the proper items will help you through different winter driving situations.
“Just take an extra five minutes out of your afternoon or morning just to make sure you have some of the essentials.”
Items include kitty litter for traction on ice or when stuck, blankets to keep warm, food and water in case you have to wait a while for help and a shovel to dig your car tires out of snow.
It is also recommended to include a set of jumper cables and a cell phone charger. Streckenbach says it is important to pack what you think you could use yourself, but a properly packed kit can also help others.
“We know that people stop by to help, we just have to make sure that we have the right tools to do it.”
Other items that could be included are matches, emergency flares, a tow rope, and a first aid kit.
