MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – The search is over for a man Marinette County sheriff’s officials say got away following a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
Authorities say it began when a deputy noticed a man driving a pick-up truck had left a Pembine convenience store without paying for gas Friday night.
The deputy tried stopping the truck near Wausaukee but the driver sped up, leading to a high-speed chase.
Officials checked the license plate number on the truck and they learned the truck was reported stolen from Adams County. The chase ended on June Berry Road, just south of County C in the Town of Silver Cliff after the truck crashed into a tree.
The man then fled on foot into a large forested area. K-9 units were deployed but they could not locate the suspect.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says that 31-year-old Eric Petrie was arrested Saturday evening in the city of Oconto.
Requested charges include felony counts of fleeing an officer and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
