NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) – Two New London police officers involved in a fatal shooting last week have been identified.
Investigators say Ryan Denu has been on the force since February 2008 and Brody Erickson has been with the department since February 2015.
31-year-old Kole Knight pointed what was later found to be a toy gun at both officers when he was shot and killed last Friday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Knight’s fiancée has said he was suicidal and that she didn’t blame police for shooting him.
Both Denu and Erickson are on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. Neither officer has been involved in a shooting before.
State officials say when their investigation is complete, they will turn over the results to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney Carrie Schneider will then decide whether Denu or Erickson will be charged with any crime.
