MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – ATVs and UTVs will not be allowed on Marinette County highways.
The county’s highway committee voted Thursday to keep that policy in place, saying it could create a public safety issue.
Proponents of opening the roads, like Committee Chair Russ Bauer, say doing so could have brought financial benefits.
“If they’re not here, they’re somewhere, so why don’t we bring them here? Let them buy gas, let them go to a station and get a tire fixed and let them go to a restaurant and let them go to hotels and let them go to campgrounds. That’s tourism, that’s sales tax and we just chased it away.”
The sheriff has voiced support for the committee’s decision.
