GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A 47-yard field goal from Wisconsin kicker Rafael Gaglianone helped the Badgers upset fifth-ranked LSU 16-14 on Saturday at Lambeau Field.
The Badgers sealed the victory in the inaugural Lambeau Field College Classic when safety D’Cota Dixon intercepted a pass with 57 seconds remaining.
It was a frustrating day for the Tigers, who came into the 2016 season opener with national title hopes and a Heisman Trophy candidate in running back Leonard Fournette. Fournette rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries, but limped off the field with 2 minutes to go in the game.
Adding to the heated nature of the SEC powerhouse was the ejection of LSU offensive lineman Josh Boutte following a targeted, blind-side hit on Dixon right after his interception.
The Wisconsin defense was stout all day long, overcoming turnovers by first-time starting quarterback Bart Houston. Running back Corey Clement got a touchdown and 86 yards on 21 carries.
