APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – After a few years of trying to figure out where, the Outagamie County’s new sheriff’s department building will be in Grand Chute, north of Fox Cities Stadium.
On Tuesday the Outagamie County Board approved the plan, 28-3, to relocate the department to three acres near the intersection of State Highway 15 and Casaloma Boulevard at a cost of nearly $5.5 million.
Tuesday’s approval follows plenty of ups and downs for the project.
The department initially wanted to share a facility with the Wisconsin State Patrol, but the state patrol said no.
Another site near Highway 441 and I-41 was considered in July, but that also fell through with the county executive’s veto.
The sheriff’s department has been wanting out of downtown Appleton with the goal of less response time to some county communities.
