HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) – The Brown County Fire Investigation Task Force and Unified Investigations held a special training in the Village of Howard on Wednesday.
The “Live Burn to Learn” took place at 2014 Glendale Ave. and involved two large wooden cubes decorated like real living rooms.
The exercise helps investigators learn more about arson and insurance fraud.
Sheriff’s deputy Brandon Dhuey explains what kind of fires were set.
“These fires simulate a room inside your home. They simulate an incendiary fire, an arson would be a good example. It will also simulate an electrical fire.”
This is the first time the two teams have partnered and is considered one of the largest exercises ever held in this area.
“We have approximately 50-75 investigators here today and a total of approximately 400 will go through the training when it’s completely finished.”
Unified Senior Fire Investigator Scott Tebo says the more training they can get, the better.
“Training is an endless thing in the world of fire investigations. It’s something you can never have enough of and the more every investigator does it, the better off they’re going to be and the more proficient they’re going to be in their job in both the public and private sectors.”
The cost of the training was paid by Unified Investigations and Sciences, Inc. and the Brown County Fire Investigation Task Force
The Home Depot in Green Bay donated materials for the practice fires.
More classes are planned in the future at the same location.
