OCONTO, WI (METRO) – The laws regarding searching students could be changing after the almost-strip search of a handful of teenage girls in Oconto County.
A number of northeast Wisconsin lawmakers yesterday said the current law isn’t clear enough. This all comes after the superintendent in Suring Schools told five students to strip down to their underwear as part of a vape-cartridge search.
State Senator Eric Wimberger says the current law goes too far, and doesn’t give parents enough notice.
Suring’s superintendent, Kelly Casper, is on leave as she awaits trial on false imprisonment charges. Prosecutors say they couldn’t charge her with strip-search charges because the teens weren’t completely naked.
