GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A crash caught on Green Bay Police dashcam video is being released publicly as a reminder about safe driving.
According to police, Lt. Jeff Engelbrecht was driving an unmarked patrol vehicle southbound on Gray Street approaching Dousman Street around 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14.
The traffic light on Gray Street was green at the time, and the gold car in front of Engelbrecht was traveling normally through the intersection. That’s when a black vehicle runs a red light on Dousman and slams into the gold car.
Officials say the driver of the gold vehicle was trapped inside and had to be extricated from the car by the fire department. Both drivers received injuries.
The driver of the black vehicle, a 41 year old Green Bay woman, received a citation for violating the red light. This citation has a $98.80 bond with a potential 4 points assessed on the driver’s record.
The Green Bay Police Department wants to remind drivers to drive safe and obey traffic laws. They are urging conversations with family members on the importance of driving the speed limit and using caution at intersections.
It’s also extremely important, police say, for drivers to not be distracted by cellphones, passengers, or loud music inside their vehicles.
