APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A New London man is hospitalized after being hit by a train in Appleton Sunday morning.
Police say the man was laying on the tracks near the corner of W. Lawrence Street and Locust Street around 4:30 a.m. when a westbound train approached.
Investigators say the engineer of the Canadian National train tried to break and used the whistles to alert the man, but he didn’t move from the tracks. The train was unable to stop and struck the man.
The man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The incident force several intersections in downtown Appleton to close down while investigators worked the scene.
The intersection opened up around 7:50 a.m.
