BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach will publicly release his 2017 budget proposal on Friday.
According to a statement provided to the media ahead of that release, taxes would dip a penny per $1,000 of property value and the overall budget would fall by $1 million.
Other highlights of Streckenbach’s 2017 budget plan includes:
- Reducing the tax rate from $4.54 to $4.53 per $1,000 of property value
- Reducing outstanding debt by about $2 million
- Improving all county roads from “poor to fair” to “fair to good” status by 2020
- Replacing the tarnished copper courthouse dome by 2018, the county’s 200th anniversary

County board committees will discuss the proposed $291.3 million budget through the month of October. It is scheduled to be approved November 2, unless Streckenbach vetoes the board’s budget.
