GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Holiday Season, with parties, shopping, and overall running around, can often be a time when good eating habits go to die. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Corissa Conard is a personal trainer at the Greater Green Bay YMCA, and currently studying nutrition.
She says there’s a rule to follow…and it doesn’t mean denying yourself holiday goodies.
“Tell my clients about the 80-20 rule. So, 80 percent of the time eat healthy…20 percent of the time enjoy those treats here and there.”
Conard says that’s a philosophy that works throughout the year.
“You have to have the mindset, like I don’t need to indulge in all of this just because it is the holidays.”
Portion size is important too. Try to use the palm of your hand as a guide.
There’s also recipes out there that are healthy and just as tasty.
But if you fall off the rails, Conard says don’t get discouraged.
“Those days do happen, and it’s OK. Just knowing how to get back on the right track.”
And don’t punish yourself.
“Eat a piece of the pie, share it with someone, just don’t eat the whole thing.”
