GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Green Bay Water Utility is making an important request this winter.
Adopt a Fire Hydrant.
It is as simple as taking an initiative to make a hydrant by where you live assessable in case of a fire.
“If people are out clearing their driveways and sidewalks and can also make a point of clearing a three foot radius around a fire hydrant that is on or near their property, that would just kind of pave the way.”
Lori Kaye Lodes, Communication Director of the Green Bay Water Utility says making sure the fire fighters can access the nozzles will make a huge difference.
“It is more about clearance around it, that worrying about if there is snow or ice on it.”
Lodes says if firefighters have to clear the snow themselves, that could waste precious time.
The request includes making sure that the nozzles are accessible.
There are close to 4,000 public hydrants in Green Bay.
