MADISON, WI (WTAQ)- There is no such thing as a misfit toy, but certain toys may not be a good fit for certain children.
Michelle Reinen of the Bureau of Consumer Protection says shopping for toys should include some careful inspections.
“The first step is really what is the age of the child you are buying for?”
Age gradings are on the toy packaging, and should be followed.
Reinen adds that some parents consider if the toy can still be safe for their child, even if they are under the age limit on the package.
“There is a lot of research that goes into what age range should be put on each toy.”
She says the packaging will also indicate certain warnings that it is important to consider.
“If there are suffocation hazards, strangulation hazards, small magnets or things that can pose any hazard for a child.”
Any toy with a safety label on it means that toy has gone though extreme testing.
Even if you pick out the perfect toy for the perfect age, Reinen said recalls can still happen, and should be monitored throughout the holiday season.
