Police say using an available technology has proven to reduce winter auto thefts.
With colder weather comes the desire to have a warm car, but starting your car and leaving it unattended is a common way for vehicle theft to take place.
After a recent car theft in Shawano, Police Chief Dan Mauel says a remote starter allows you to start your car, leave you doors locked, and adds one more security.
“This way you can lock your doors and still warm up your car.”
Carrying an extra set of keys so you can lock your door will also help.
Mauel says the holidays also can lead to theft of items from vehicles.
He says when you shop, people are watching what you are doing.
“They can see that you put a bag in your car and will look for it if they are given the chance.”
