BOVINA, WI (WTAQ) -Outagamie County Sheriff Officials have identified the subjects involved in a double fatal accident Sunday night on Highway 54.
Sheriff Officials say 82-year old David Rosol and 83-year old Hazel De Witt, both of La Grange, Illinois, were killed by a driver that officials say was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
57-year old Joseph Konetzke of Neenah is being treated at a local hospital for non life threatening injuries, and charges of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle are being requested.
According to Sergeant Nathan Borman said the accident was preventable.
“The northbound vehicle had run a stop sign, and in the process had struck a westbound vehicle. The victims had the right away and we do have witnesses that confirmed that Mr. Konetzke did not stop at the stop sign.”
Sergeant Borman said officers were able to obtain enough evidence to determine that Konetzke was intoxcated at the time of the crash.
“Investigators did attempt the normal field sobriety tests, but however due to some of Mr. Konetzke’s injuries, not all could be completed.”
Sergeant Borman said the county has a had a total of 19 fatal crashes this year.
“All of this is preventable and this year, this is the 20th and 21st fatalities in Outagamie County this year. These are things that people are making a choice to drink and drive, and as a result, they are killing people.”
Borman said the holiday season typically sees an increase in these type of crashes.
“I think people think it won’t be them, or they won’t get caught, or they won’t hurt another person. We are dealing with families that lost loved ones, and families that will never be the same because of drinking and driving.”
