OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Oshkosh and Oshkosh Public Library are dropping their face mask mandates.
As of Tuesday, people will no longer be required to wear masks while inside city-owned buildings. Masks will still be required on city buses by federal order.
Also beginning Tuesday, boards and commissions will resume in-person meetings unless they have already posted agendas for virtual meetings. City council meetings will continue to be held in-person and will no longer offer a virtual option for public participation.
Meanwhile, the library’s mask requirement has already been dropped. The library board made the decision Thursday, citing the decreased number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the community.
“Based on recent data, the board felt that it was the right time to lift the mandate,” library director Jeff Gilderson-Duwe said in a news release. “Materials will continue to be available via curbside pickup for patrons who prefer a contactless option.”
The decisions come ahead of an expected update on mask guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The seven-day average of COVID-19 cases in Winnebago County has decreased from 336 as of Jan. 26 to 27 as of Thursday.
