ASHLAND COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Just three days before Memorial Day Weekend campers invade northern Wisconsin, part of Ashland County reports an inch of new snow.
Glidden was among the places close to Lake Superior which had light lake effect snow overnight. Other spots in the north were frosty.
Manitowish Waters was the state’s cold spot with 29 degrees at 7 a.m. Tuesday, with a wind chill of 21.
Southern Wisconsin was much milder, with temperatures generally in the 40’s. Racine was the state’s warm spot with 48 at 7 a.m.
Forecasters do not expect any place in Wisconsin to get above 60 Tuesday — around 10 to 15 degrees below normal.
The National Weather Service says high pressure will create clearing skies and even colder temperatures Tuesday night.
Frost advisories are posted for most of the entire northern half of Wisconsin, generally from midnight until 8 a.m. Wednesday. More areas could fall into the 20’s by this time Wednesday.
Fortunately for the visitors, a slight warm up is due on Friday, with generally dry weather at least into Sunday. By then, highs should be around 70 — but lows may keep dropping into the 40’s.
