MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – When Manitowoc school district students return to class next week, masks will be optional.
The district says face masks will be optional in all district buildings, effective at the end of the school day today (FRI).
There is no school scheduled on Monday for the district, so Tuesday will be the first day the mask optional policy will be in place.
Face masks will continue to be required on buses due to a federal mandate for public transportation currently in effect until March 18th.
The district says student and staff absences have decreased significantly, paired with the fact that vaccinations are available for students five and older.
Other school districts across Northeast Wisconsin have relaxed their mask policies as statewide COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations trend downward.
