The Green Bay Phoenix routed last place UIC 75-46 at the Kress Center Thursday night for their 9th consecutive victory and now get ready to host Horizon League leading IUPUI Saturday afternoon for a shot at the regular season conference title.
The Lady Phoenix led wire to wire in the rout of the Flames with Sydney Levy leading the way with 21 points, 16 coming in the first half on blistering shooting. The former Appleton North star was 6 for 7 from the floor and a perfect 4 out of 4 from three point range. No other Phoenix reached double figures but all 12 players who got into the game also got into the scoring column.
GB improves to 16-5 on the year, 12-3 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars, led by Pre-season and the likely player of the year in Macee Williams, handled UW-Milwaukee Thursday night 71-59 with Williams putting up 27 points. They are 19-5 overall and 16-3 in conference play. Because teams have played an uneven number of games due to COVID-19 postponements or forfeits, the conference champion will be crowned based on the best winning percentage. Youngstown State is also in the hunt with a 15-3 conference record and they play at home versus Northern Kentucky on Friday night.
The Phoenix haven’t lost since a 51-49 defeat at the hands of IUPUI in early January but the Jaguars played that game without Williams. The showdown is set for 1:00 PM at the Kress on Saturday.
