LAKE WINNEBAGO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Following a mild day, Lake Winnebago saw a slight increase in sturgeon harvested as temperatures returned to cooler levels.
The state Department of Natural Resources reports 47 fish were harvested Thursday, 11 more than Wednesday. The totals after six days are 100 juvenile females, 312 adult females and 261 males.
Just under 20% of the sturgeon harvested Thursday weighed more than 100 pounds, the highest ratio of large fish in one day. The largest fish came in at 174.3 pounds, surpassing the previous high by nearly 25 pounds.
The highest harvest rates continue to come from the Stockbridge registration station. The station has seen 219 fish so far, nearly 100 more than the other stations.
