OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – There’s a new biologist overseeing sturgeon management on the Lake Winnebago system.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources on Thursday introduced Margaret Stadig as its new fisheries biologist.
Stadig is a Michigan native who has experience working with large, primitive fish species. Most recently, she worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, reintroducing paddlefish to the Big Cypress Bayou System. Before that, she worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service studying lake sturgeon on the St. Clair River System.
The DNR also hired Angelo Cozzola as a fisheries biologist for the Lake Winnebago system. He will focus on managing walleye, northern pike, muskellunge and other game fish on the system. Cozzola was previously a DNR fisheries technician based in Oshkosh.
