GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Dozens of people in the Green Bay community got a welcomed surprise at their door Monday afternoon.
Green Bay Police partnered with several area organizations to hand out 50 food baskets to those in need just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Chief Andrew Smith says the initiative called “Badges Giving Baskets,” is about helping others in the community.
“The real reason why we’re here, is we want to make a difference in Green Bay. This is one of those days that we get, that really, as a police officer, makes a difference in an officer’s life and other people’s lives to be able to go out and do something truly nice for the community.”
Organizations involved with the event included Feeding America, Black Lives United, Green Bay School District, Young Life, and Boys and Girls Club.
Dontay Echols with the non-profit organization Black Lives United said it was a great experience.
“It was definitely a positive experience. You know, we got to go out, see the community, drop off some baskets and help out for Christmas a little bit.”
The food items were donated by area food bank, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
