APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — While the Packers early exit from the playoffs was disappointing to football fans in Northeast Wisconsin, they’re still expected to gather in front of their TVs to watch the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Los Angeles for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Those fans are going to be hungry, and almost nobody knows that better than Richard Niemuth, the owner of Niemuth’s Southside Market in Appleton.
“We’ve done a lot of the bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, crab rangoon stuffed mushroom caps…we make out own homemade pizzas,” Niemuth told WTAQ. “Obviously you’re going to have a cheese and sausage plate with several different cheeses and several different sausages on it.”
While these things all may sound like the ideal Super Bowl Party snack spread, it isn’t. Niemuth says in Wisconsin, the only perfect Super Bowl party is one in which the Green Bay Packers are playing on TV. When that happens, tastes change.
“If the Packers would have been there, it would have been steak, shrimp, and lobster,” Niemuth said. “Without the Packers, it’s going to be more cocktail weenies and tacos.”
Either way, he says he has both: and plenty of beer too. Niemuth says fans should get their food ready early, as opposed to last minute.
Super Bowl LVI kicks off this Sunday at 5:30.
