FOX VALLEY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With the spring primary election less than a week away, there are some things you might want to be reminded of.
Local clerks are giving an update on recent changes and letting residents know the information they need to know before heading to the polls.
The spring primary election is on Feb. 15, and after a court battle, ballot drop boxes will be allowed, for now.
“The court of appeals continue, to this day, for us to be able to use the absentee ballot boxes, just for the Feb. 15 election,” said Laurie Decker Village of Little Chute clerk. “I’m sure it’s going to go back and forth a lot again, before the April 5 election, but it is certainly fine.”
Having drop boxes throughout a municipality is hardly a concern if you live in Oshkosh, though.
“One box at city hall that’s locked within our lobby area, so a voter, of course, can return their ballot to that box, or you can bring it into city hall,” Oshkosh city clerk Jessi Balcom said.
Another question that may arise is if you even have a race to place a vote for.
“I think one of the biggest questions is, ‘Is there a primary?’ However, in the city of Oshkosh, all of our wards do have a primary,” Balcom said.
If you’re not an Oshkosh resident, that might not be the case, but the MyVote website can let you know quickly.
“If you put in your street address, city and zip code, it’ll come up with what’s your ballot,” Decker explained. “You’ll be able to see your sample ballot, you’ll be able to see exactly what you’re voting for, and you can see that this voter does vote in the Feb. 15 primary.”
You can also tell if you can have a vote to cast this spring primary by looking toward the left of your screen. There, it will show your next Election Day.
But whether you head to the polls this month or on April 5th, one thing is for certain, you’ll want to know exactly where to go.
“There was redistricting after the federal election, so your ward number and district number may have changed,” Balmcom said. “Even if you’ve been going to the same polling location for the past 10 years, it’s possible you may need to go to a different polling location for this upcoming election.”
January 26th was the last day to register to vote for the spring primary.
