HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) – In Washington D. C. next month history will be made….and a group of students from Bay Port High School will get to see it in person.
Social Studies teacher Ellie Reich is taking 17 students to D-C to witness the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20th.
Reich says the kids have been keenly interested in the campaigns.
“it allowed to really be engaged in the process and see how things were unfolding and developing”
Carter Olson is a Junior at Bay Port.
And he’s very much looking forward to this unique history lesson.
“this is kind of my first experience with that and just understanding how significant that actually is…..it will be really interesting to see up close”
Reich is hoping all the students will be inspired by this trip and continue to be involved in government and the issues.
“definitely, we’re hoping that this will make them start thinking about government a little differently and how they can be involved in that”
Olson is all in….but is worried about young people taking part in our system.
“I do worry about that. I think so many people see a bunch of fighting and they kind of gave up on learning”
The group will also visit D-C. sites like the Smithsonian and Arlington National Cemetery.
