GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) -The Green Bay Police Department is investigating the death of man on the city’s west side.
Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith spoke to WLUK.
“We want to determine whether this was a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if somebody else shot this individual” Police were called to the 600 block of Ashland Ave. and Bond Street just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, for the report of a crash.
“Our officers responded and they located a van that had crashed into a tree. Inside of the van, was a young man who appeared to be deceased of a gunshot wound” .
Officers on scene using flashlights as they searched a large area across from the crash site.
“We usually make a crime scene a little bit larger at the beginning to make sure that we capture any evidence that’s in there, any vehicles, or any forensic evidence, any foot prints, anything of that nature,” explained Smith.
Smith says the investigation is still in its early stages.
“Again it was a gun-shot wound, we’re not sure if it was self-inflicted or not, we want to make sure we’re right on this one,” said Smith.
He added the victim was a man in his late teens or early 20’s.
Eventually, investigators determined the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Smith asking anyone with information on the incident to call the police department at (920) 391-7450.
