MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Fall colors are just starting to emerge in Wisconsin.
Some places in the south don’t have any leaves changing color yet — while the Hayward area is at 35 percent of its peak, and other places in the north are up to 25 percent of their peaks.
The state DNR says birch, basswood, and red maples are starting to change color in the north.
Officials say it’s been a good growing season for trees and plants — and it should result in “spectacular” yellows, reds, and oranges once the season gets going.
Fall colors are big business in Wisconsin, as many folks plan their weekends around the nature show. Normally, colors reach their peaks in late September in northern Wisconsin, early to mid-October in central areas, and late October in the south.
