FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department says no one was injured after a pick-up truck broke through the ice on Lake Winnebago.
The incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday north of Frazier Point at Lakeside Park.
A man with a UTV helped deputies make their way to the man whose truck fell through.
Other than being cold, the 51-year-old man wasn’t injured and was released from the scene.
The initial investigation shows he was traveling around several large cracks on the southern end of the lake.
There he experienced an area of weak ice that his truck broke through.
He was able to throw his phone out onto the ice, which he used to call 911 after climbing out of the truck.
The truck is completely submerged. The man has 30 days to remove it from Lake Winnebago.
