MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin health officials say there are now 42 confirmed cases of blastomycosis linked to the Little Wolf River.
In their weekly update issued Wednesday, there are now 39 suspected cases of the fungal disease. That’s 2 more confirmed and 2 more suspected cases since last week.
Health officials say the fungus live in the soil, and once it’s disturbed, it becomes airborne. Symptoms include coughing, muscle aches and chest pains. They can appear up to 4 months after exposure, and are similar to the flu.
The cases all involve people who were tubing on the Little Wolf River over Memorial Day weekend.
