APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton police say a man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly breaking into an apartment building to sexually assault a woman.
Authorities say the attack happened in the 300 block of N. Appleton Street around 4 a.m. Saturday.
The caller reported a man knocking on the door and asking to use the bathroom. The caller didn’t let the man into the apartment, but felt he was still inside the building.
Police went and checked, but couldn’t find the man in the building.
When officers were leaving, the caller called again saying the man may have forced his way into another apartment. Police knocked on the door and heard muffled screams in response. Officers forced their way inside, found the man and arrested him.
The victim told police that the man confronted her as she returned home. When she tried getting into her apartment, the man also forced his way in. She tried using the phone, but the man took it from her. She began to scream, but he covered her mouth with her hand and forced her to the ground, threatening violence. When officer arrived, they found the man pulling at her shirt.
The man, identified as 38-year-old Brian Ducksworth, lists a local shelter as his residence. Ducksworth appeared in court Monday and is charged with 7 counts, including second-degree sexual assault with use of force, burglary, strangulation and suffocation and false imprisonment.
