APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton will spend up to $10.5 million to build a new Erb Park Pool.
The common council decided that Wednesday night when it approved the annual city budget.
But that’s more than what some council members wanted to pay.
The council made the decision as part of its approval of the overall city budget for 2016.
One of the amendments was to put in the cash to rebuild parts of Erb Park and specifically, Erb Park Pool.
The bill was already at $9 million to pay for a smaller one. Council member Kyle Lobner was a yes.
He’s says it’s worth the extra money for a pool that can be put to more uses than a smaller version
Alderman Kurt Konetzke says…..not prudent and not the best use of taxpayer dollars.
But Konetzke was voted down by an 11 – 4 margin.
An outcry over the pool came up last month when Mayor Tim Hanna suggested putting a splash pad in Erb Park to replace the aging pool.
The council disagreement may not be over though. The city still has to decide on a new pool design.
