ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Supply shortages continue to impact businesses of all types, the RV and camping industry included.
Camping is a favorite pastime for many, including Bonduel resident Jack Shmoll.
“We go to the national forests a lot, and state and county parks we do a lot of. We might go there. Whatever’s in the middle of the week. Not many people. We’re retired so we’ve got that luxury,” Shmoll said.
Shmoll says he’s seen more campers over the last couple of years.
“You’ve got to go in the middle of the week in order to go because the weekends are all plugged up. And the traffic is terrible. We try to avoid a lot of that,” Shmoll said.
Steven Neville, the owner of Quietwoods RV, says RV sales have been strong.
“It has been a little struggle with getting inventory in at a good time for customers and everything. And of course we do have an inflation thing going on. It has affected our industry somewhat, people are still buying.” Neville said.
He’s not the only dealer navigating supply shortages.
“Materials are coming in slowly, we’re not making campers as quickly, some of the campers are actually not being made due to the fact that we can’t get parts for certain things,” Travis Haack with Kunes RV Green Bay said.
Salespeople say the shortages are widespread.
“It’s not one particular item that goes into the campers,” Neville said.
Dealers say the best time to buy is now.
“Do I feel that we are going to have the inventory in June and July? Yes. But none of us have a crystal ball. These factories have all ramped up to their best ability that they could do with not getting materials that they need but I would recommend if you want to camp, buy it now,” Neville said.
The Green Bay RV and Camping Expo at the Resch runs through Sunday
