GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s New Years Eve, and Green Bay Police are again warning against drinking and driving.
The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ program is in force until New Years Day, that means Green Bay Police will be out in force looking for drunk drivers.
“We do deploy more officers out on the streets looking for impaired drivers,” Police Commander Kevin Warych told WTAQ. “Maybe that’s another deterrent.
The program has been active throughout the holiday season, kicking off just after Thanksgiving.
“It’s one of those things where if you think you’ve had enough, you’ve probably had enough,” Warych said. “Why make that poor decision when there are so many options available for people?”
Those options include a designated driver, using a rideshare program, or using the newly implemented Safe Park initiative, which allows drivers to get a placard from their bartender allowing them to stay parked overnight without worrying about getting a parking ticket.
“We just want people to have a plan,” said Warych. “We don’t want them to make that conscious decision to get behind the wheel and put all of us at risk.”
In 2019, there have been no reported drunk driving fatalities in Brown County.
