GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The SAT standardized test for college admissions is changing with the times and going online in the United States.
The College Board, which runs the test, says a number of changes are coming.
Gone are the days of filling in bubbles on a scantron with a No. 2 pencil. And hello to the age of virtual standardized tests.
Green Bay Area Public School District Assessment Director Stephen Miller tells FOX 11 it puts local students in a better position to succeed.
“I really think it puts our students at an advantage because most of the state assessments that they currently take are online assessments.”
Going online is not the only change coming.
The test will be shorter, two hours instead of three, with more time per question. Reading passages will be shorter too, with just one question tied to each. Calculators will also be allowed for the entirety of the math section. And students will receive scores back in a matter of days, instead of weeks.
Still the ACT is the primary entrance exam that most Wisconsin students take.
“This year we are going to be trying that out with our schools in Green Bay,” said Miller. “And using the online version of the ACT test. Both of them are equally difficult.”
Miller says students are more comfortable sitting in front of a computer to take a test rather than filling out bubbles with a pencil.
The SAT is going to a virtual format in 2024.
