MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Drunk driving consequences in Wisconsin are about to get tougher starting January 1.
Back in April, Governor Scott Walker signed a law making a 4th drunk driving offense a felony no matter when it’s committed.
State law now says a fourth offense is a felony only if committed within five years of a third offense.
The maximum sentence for fifth and sixth offenses also increases with the new law from three years to five.
Wisconsin is the only state that doesn’t criminalize for a first offense.
