Sturgeon Bay, WI (WTAQ) – A resort in Door County had to be evacuated Wednesday morning.
The call to the Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort came in around 8 a.m.
Officials with the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department say a maintenance staff member was mixing chemicals in the pool area.
Fire fighter Mike Frangipane says a bad smell permeated the area.
“The maintenance people inadvertently mixed some pool chemicals together that shouldn’t have been and basically had a chemical reaction. They had some acid and chlorine mixed,” said Frangipane.
Around 50 people were evacuated.
Two staff members taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Both are expected to be fine.
