GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It’s going to be a very cold Saturday. Temperatures in the evening are expected to fall to the low single digits.
That’s not unusual in Green Bay. Also not unusual? Playoff football.
The chilly temps come on the same day as the NFC Divisional Playoff game. Brittanie Pinter is a nurse practitioner with Bellin Health and reminds you to bundle up.
“Being outside in those cold temperatures, frostbite can set in around 20-30 minutes if you’re not dressed appropriately,” Pinter told WTAQ.
There are signs you should look out for, like cold skin, numbness and tingling, discoloration, and hard, waxy looking skin.
“I know a lot of individuals will be drinking beverages on Saturday,” Pinter said. “Really watch your alcohol intake, because some frostbite symptoms can be masked by drinking alcohol.”
If left untreated, frostbite could require amputation.
Temperatures around two degrees above zero are expected for kickoff time at 7:15 between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. Niners Quarterback Jimmy Garropolo’s coldest ever starting game was 38 degrees.
By comparison, in San Francisco, California, temps in the lower 60s are expected around kickoff time.
