MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After 11 years with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Matt Erickson is being called up to the big leagues.
Erickson will be the Milwaukee Brewers’ infield and assistant hitting coach, the team announced Tuesday.
The Appleton native had managed his hometown Timber Rattlers since 2011. The longest-serving manager in team history, he posted a career record of 652-714, winning the Midwest League championship with the Timber Rattlers in 2012.
Erickson joins new co-hitting coaches Ozzie Timmons and Connor Dawson. They were hired in November after the Brewers fired Andy Haines and Jacob Cruz following Milwaukee’s late-season offensive struggles.
The Brewers have not assigned a new manager to the Timber Rattlers yet.
More coaching moves
The Brewers also hired Jim Henderson to be their bullpen coach, replacing Steve Karsay, who stepped down to spend more time with his family. Henderson played for the Brewers and New York Mets, leading the Brewers with 28 saves in 2013. He also played and coached for the Timber Rattlers.
Daniel Vega was named assistant strength and conditioning specialist. He comes to the Brewers from the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Vega replaces Jason Meredith, who became the Brewers’ strength and conditioning coach in Arizona.
The Brewers say their 2022 major league coaching staff is now complete.
