The Green Bay Packers have dipped into the college ranks to fill out their coaching staff. The Packers have reportedly hired Oklahoma Sooners’ defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery. With no departures expected from the current defensive staff, Montgomery will be filling a new role, presumably assisting current defensive line coach Mike Trgovac. Montgomery spent the past two seasons working with the Oklahoma defensive line and Sooners head coach Bob Stoops had just promoted him to co-defensive coordinator heading into the 2015 season. Montgomery has also coached at Michigan, Wyoming and Northern Iowa. He joins former San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach Mike Solari as a new Packer coach. The team hasn’t formally announced either hire yet, Head Coach Mike McCarthy isn’t expected to meet the media until next Thursday at the NFL Scouting combine in Indianapolis.
