GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A suspect appeared in court Friday afternoon on a possible charge of mutilating a corpse, and while few details are being released, it appears the arrest is tied to a body found at the edge of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus in September.
According to Brown County jail records, 29-year-old Jeisaac Rodriquez-Garcia was booked into the jail Thursday by Green Bay police for “mutilating a corpse – public order crimes.”
Jail records indicate it is Green Bay Police case #21-254627. That’s the same tracking code provided by police when it asked for information about the body of 36-year-old Jason Mendez-Ramos of Ashwaubenon found at the campus after a report of a fire.
The police department, however, declined to offer any details Friday.
“We are unable to provide any additional information on this individual as this is an ongoing investigation,” Capt. Ben Allen said.
In court Friday, the district attorney’s office submitted a written, sealed probable cause statement, instead of verbally outlining the case, as is the usual procedure.
Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Hardtke called it an investigation of a “sensitive and serious nature.”
A court commissioner set at $10,000 cash bond, and gave the district attorney’s office two weeks to file a criminal complaint.
The statute Rodriguez-Garcia is booked under describes the charge as “Whoever mutilates, disfigures or dismembers a corpse, with intent to conceal a crime or avoid apprehension, prosecution or conviction for a crime, is guilty of a Class F felony.”
A FOX 11 search of court records revealed just two traffic citations from 2018 for Rodriguez-Garcia.
