(WNFL)- The Brewers now that say catcher Jonathan Lucroy will be out 4-6 weeks with the broken big left toe he suffered on Monday night. Assistant general manager Gord Ash says it’s a regular break and not just a hairline fracture in which Lucroy could have played once he could tolerate the pain. Ash also said second baseman Scooter Gennett will most likely return to the field once his 15 days on the disabled list expire. He suffered a freak accident on Sunday at Pittsburgh, when he cut open the base of his left middle finger against a shower rack while grabbing bodywash. Elian Herrera was called up yesterday to replace Gennett. Herrera started at second last night and hit a grand slam. Martin Maldonado started in Lucroy’s place, and Maldonado belted a two-run homer. To make room on the 40-man roster for Herrera, the Brewers designated reliever Brandon Kintzler for assignment. He was reinstated from the DL at Triple-“A” Colorado Springs yesterday with a nail issue. The Brewers have nine more days to decide whether trade Kintzler, release him, or send him outright to Colorado Springs.
