It’s rare when a Wisconsin Badger basketball player gets drafted in the National Basketball Association, even more rare when it’s a first round draft pick, Alonzo Tucker was the last almost a decade ago. At Thursday night’s NBA draft, a pair of Badgers are expected to go in the opening round and that would be a first in the program’s history. Frank Kaminsky, the Wooden Award winner as the nation’s best college player, and junior entry Sam Dekker of Sheboygan, who both carried the Badgers to the national championship game, are likely first round picks. In one mock draft, Dekker was tabbed 8th overall by the Detroit Pistons, while Kaminsky was predicted to be bound for the Phoenix Suns at number 13. A couple more state products could also be selected. Two time Horizon League player of the year Keifer Sykes from the Green Bay Phoenix is hoping to get a call before the second and final round of the draft is complete and J.P. Tokoto of North Carolina, by way of Menomonee Falls High School is also on the board. As for the Milwaukee Bucks, General Manager John Hammond has the 17th overall pick in the first round and a second round pick, 46th overall.
