Wisconsin Lottery
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Another profitable year for the Wisconsin State Lottery is benefiting property taxpayers.
The Department of Revenue has announced that the average credit for property owners is $229, representing a 38% jump over the 2020 credit.
Officials with the DOR and Lottery attribute this year’s credit to Lottery sales exceeding estimates, which resulted in a higher opening balance for 2021. In 2020, the corresponding Lottery and Gaming Credit was $166.
DOR secretary Peter Barca says this year’s total is the highest in the 33-year history of the Wisconsin Lottery.
Statewide property owners shared in a $343.6 million pool, up from $237 million last year. Since 1988, over $4 billion has been distributed to residents to take some of the pain out of property tax bills.
