Santana adds power boost for Brewers

(WNFL) –  Miller Park has some of the Majors’ shortest power alleys. And the Milwaukee Brewers are trying to regain an edge in home-run power with the help of outfielder Domingo Santana. The Brewers used to take advantage of the short porches in left-and-right-center with sluggers like Prince Fielder and Corey Hart. Those players are long gone — and opponents have hit 30 more homers than the Crew this year at Miller Park. Santana is batting .185 in eight games, but he has a .556 slugging percentage with three homers. He’s one of four prospects traded from Houston in July, in the deal that sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Astros. Manager Craig Counsell says he’s trying to help the 23-year-old Santana be more selective at the plate to cut down on his strikeouts. He fanned once every three at-bats in the minors. The Brewers were off yesterday, and will host Pittsburgh tonight. Jimmy Nelson starts against Pittsburgh’s Gerrit Cole.
