(WNFL) – According to Radio Station WDUX in Waupaca, long time high school football coaching legend John Koronkiewicz has informed the school that he is stepping down as head football coach and will officially present his football coaching resignation to the school’s board of education next week. Koronkiewicz has spent 40-years coaching the Comets, 32 as head coach. He took Waupaca to five state championship games, winning titles in 2006 and 2008. The 63-year-old Oconto native wrapped up his career with a 4-6 season in 2015, capping off a career record of 265-90. Koronkiewicz captured 22 conference titles, including a stretch of 13 straight during his career. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008.
