The Milwaukee Brewers finally hung on to a late lead and they beat the A’s in Oakland 4-2 Wednesday afternoon to leave California with at least a little better taste in their mouth.
The victory was just the second in a long, hard, nine game trip.
Junior Guerra improved to 4-1 since getting called up from Colorado Springs by pitching seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out 8.
After giving up a run, Milwaukee pushed in front with three scores in the fifth. Yadiel Rivera brought home the first one with a safety squeeze and then Scooter Gennett launched an opposite field two run homer, his seventh of the season.
After the A’s closed to within 3-2, Kirk Nieuwenhuis added some insurance with a two out, solo blast in the 8th, his third of the year.
Tyler Thornberg worked an inning and a third for his second save.
After going 2-7 in the Golden State, the Brewers (32-40) spend Thursday coming home to open a weekend series against the Washington Nationals at Miller Park on Friday night.
