The Milwaukee Brewers won’t beat any teams managing just four hits, all singles and only one run.
That’s what they managed against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night in dropping their third staight game to baseball’s best team, 6-1 was the final.
It didn’t take long to settle this one as Brewer starter Jimmy Nelson gave up five runs in the bottom of the first inning. He walked his first batter, hit his second and it only got worse. Jorge Soler launched a three run homer to put Milwaukee in a hole.
David Ross added a solo shot in the third as Nelson lasted five innings in dropping to 6-13 on the season. He’s won only one game since May for Milwaukee.
Jon Lester cruised through six and two thirds innings for his 13th win, allowing a run on three hits.
The only Milwaukee tally came in the sixth on an Orlando Arcia groundout.
The Brewers will have been outscored 14-2 in the series. The final game will feature Zach Davies against Cubs ace Jake Arrietta. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:45 on 1440, 101.9 WNFL.
