The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team, ranked No. 1 in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association and No. 2 by D3football.com, will continue play in the NCAA Division III Playoffs this Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon against No. 10/6 John Carroll (Ohio), the Ohio Athletic Conference champion, in a national quarterfinal contest at Perkins Stadium.Tickets are $11 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased at the ticket window near the front entrance of the stadium starting at 10 a.m. Parking is available for $10 per spot in Lot 24 and $5 in Lots 7, 9, 11, 18 and 19. In all other campus lots, parking is free. The Warhawks (12-0 overall) scored 30 unanswered points en route to a 37-9 victory over No. 17/20 Wittenberg (Ohio) in the second round last Saturday. UW-Whitewater converted 10-of-17 on third down, possessed the ball for more than 38 minutes and totaled 496 yards of offense. Saturday’s win was the Warhawks’ 32nd consecutive victory at Perkins Stadium, a school record, and the program’s 33rd straight at home in the postseason.
UW-Whitewater opened the postseason with a 45-27 triumph over Lakeland in the first round on Nov. 19 at Perkins Stadium. The Warhawks scored the first 28 points of the game and rushed for 263 yards and held the Muskies to 27 yards on the ground.
John Carroll (11-1) qualified for its third-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III quarterfinal round with a 20-17 victory in double overtime against No. 18/22 Wesley (Del.). After the two teams exchanged touchdowns in the first overtime, Wesley converted a 47-yard field goal on the first possession of the second overtime. Anthony Moeglin completed consecutive passes on the ensuing drive, including the game-winning, 14-yard touchdown toss to Anthony Leonetti. The Blue Streaks finished with 255 yards passing in the contest and totaled nine sacks defensively.
